Palmeiras have confirmed the signing of John Arias, unveiling the Colombian forward on Saturday morning.
According to Coluna Do Fla, Flamengo moved to recruit him from Wolverhampton in recent days with a 23 million euro, R$ 141 million, proposal, but he declined citing his bond with Fluminense.
Palmeiras welcomed the 28-year-old on social media and agreed a 25 million euro, R$ 154 million, deal.
Arias had said last year, on leaving Fluminense, that he would only return to Brazil to play there. After changing course, he posted an open letter minutes before the announcement, saying he was at a pivotal moment, knew the weight of his words, and had to decide based on what was possible and within his control.
He arrives to replace Raphael Veiga, who has joined América of Mexico on loan.
Palmeiras also paid 25 million euros for Vitor Roque last year. They are seeking to erase a campaign of runners-up finishes, in the Paulista to Corinthians, and in both the Libertadores and the Brasileirão to Flamengo.
Flamengo remain busy in the market after paying 42 million euros, R$ 260 million, for Lucas Paquetá and setting aside around 30 million euros, R$ 185 million, for a striker. The rivalry looks set to intensify on and off the pitch in 2026.
