Palmeiras could close a more than 10-year spell of trusting over-30 goalkeepers at the end of this season, according to Nosso Palestra.
Since 2015 the club relied on Fernando Prass and Jailson, then established the Weverton era, usually flanked by veteran deputies such as Marcelo Lomba.
Now the picture points to renewal. Carlos Miguel has taken the starting role and Kaique has been reintegrated after a loan in Portuguese football. The club signals a strategy shift towards younger keepers with long-term runway at the Academia de Futebol.
Marcelo Lomba, 39, is contracted until December 2026, but his stay for next season remains uncertain. The tendency is for Palmeiras to assess a reshuffle in the position, creating space for a new generation nurtured by the club.
Lomba's possible exit would underline the close of a philosophy that brought results. Prass, Jailson, Weverton and Lomba were influential on the pitch and behind the scenes, offering leadership and helping younger players.
If the shift is confirmed, Palmeiras would begin 2027 with a younger goalkeeping group led by Carlos Miguel. Kaique would be among the leading alternatives, with the club backing keepers under 30 who could build a long spell in the shirt.
