Palmeiras have postponed the debut of their new third shirt for Sunday’s Brasileirão match against Vasco at Nubank Parque, after a request from the CBF. The club said in a statement that technical issues related to semi-automatic offside technology prompted the change, without further detail.
Instead, the kit will be first worn against Santos on Wednesday 26 August at 21:30 at Nubank Parque, in the first leg of the Copa do Brasil quarter-finals. The date coincides with Palmeiras marking 112 years of history.
The predominantly blue strip was launched on Friday, paying tribute to the 20th anniversary of Italy’s 2006 World Cup triumph.
The design features the Cruz de Savoia on the chest, the badge used on Palestra Italia’s shirt in 1916. The launch campaign, titled “Somos Palestra Itália”, was filmed in Milão, Bergamo and around Gressoney-Saint-Jean, no Vale de Aosta, and the Castelo de Savoia was a residence of Italy’s royalty, who used the symbol as a coat of arms.
The player version, with on-field finishes, costs R$ 599,99, in men’s sizes PP to 3GG and women’s PP to 2GG. The fan version is R$ 429,99 in the same adult size ranges, and the junior fan shirt, sizes 8 to 16, is R$ 369,99.
