Palmeiras have extended defender Murilo's contract until December 2029, the club said in a statement on Thursday. He had previously been tied to December 2027.

Murilo reflected on his time, now four and a half years and more than 230 appearances, and said he wants to keep pushing his totals, aiming to join the club's most-used players, crediting Palmeiras for his development.

He marked the renewal with his family at the Academia de Futebol, calling his son, wife and parents central to his values of education and respect.

He said he tends to grow close to one or two team-mates. Before Endrick left for Real Madrid, they were especially tight, and he now shares a similar bond with right-back Khellven, whom he described as modest and from the Northeast.

He is considered one of the squad's leaders and has won eight trophies. They include four Paulistão titles in 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2026, the 2022 Recopa Sul-Americana, the 2022 and 2023 Brasileirão, and the 2023 Supercopa do Brasil.

He is also the club's fourth highest-scoring centre-back with 24 goals. In 2022 he matched the Palmeiras single-season mark for a defender, alongside Gómez, both scoring 11 that year.
