Palmeiras presented gifts to seven players called up for the World Cup, each receiving a pin bearing the club crest alongside that of their national team, plus a congratulatory letter. According to Globo.com, the gesture recognised their selection.
The handover took place after the match against Junior Barranquilla a week ago, which confirmed progression to the Conmebol Libertadores last 16.
The Verdão published a video of the presentation and the players' smiles. Club president Leila Pereira also addressed the initiative in a separate post.
Piquerez was the only one who did not receive his on the day, as the left-back was recovering from an ankle injury and had been cleared to complete treatment with Uruguay. Emiliano Martínez took it for him.
The gesture is part of Palmeiras' wider push to internationalise its brand, a drive pursued in recent years. The club also sent extra pins to be shared with national team colleagues who do not play for the Verdão.
Beyond the Uruguayans already mentioned, Palmeiras had Flaco López, Gustavo Gómez, Jhon Arias, Mauricio and Ramón Sosa among those called up for the World Cup.
