Palmeiras lined up for the national anthem without opponents as Santos arrived late for Saturday’s derby at Palmeiras’ stadium.

Santos said the Military Police changed the access route for safety reasons, delaying the team coach, a journey that usually takes 20 minutes instead took 40.

Before kick-off, Palmeiras players queued in the tunnel and waited several minutes. To follow the usual Campeonato Brasileiro protocol, they walked out alone.

The visitors emerged only after the anthem and the 18:30 start was pushed back by a few minutes.

Under article 213 of the Brazilian Sports Justice Code, delays to the start or restart of matches can draw fines of R$ 100 to R$ 100,000.

The fixture is part of the 14th round of the Campeonato Brasileiro. Palmeiras top the table with 33 points while Santos are 15th on 15.
