Palmeiras aimed a social media dig at Neymar on Thursday, praising the Nubank Parque surface after the Santos No 10 attacked Vila Belmiro’s pitch.
According to Globo.com, Neymar left Wednesday’s clássico at half-time with a right thigh injury as Santos drew 0-0 with Palmeiras and were knocked out of the Copa do Brasil quarter-finals. He later posted that Vila Belmiro’s turf was at its worst, full of holes after decompaction the day before, adding that three players felt issues in the first half.
Palmeiras responded by lauding their pitch, presenting the fix for a bad surface as making a good one, congratulating their ground staff and insisting it is always perfect and without holes thanks to daily care. They added that an even surface helps players feel safer and highlighted having the fewest injuries in Série A over the past five years.
Neymar avoids synthetic pitches, citing higher injury risk, and led a movement against their use in Brazil last year. Since returning to Santos, he has played only once on a synthetic surface, at Arena MRV.
In August, he sidestepped a question about featuring for Santos at Nubank Parque in the Copa do Brasil. His camp later vetoed plans to rent the stadium after the clubs had moved towards an agreement for Santos to host there.
