According to Nosso Palestra, Palmeiras have been in talks for several weeks to extend Flaco López’s contract, and optimism has grown as negotiations progress. The Argentine leads the club for goals and assists in 2026.
In recent days the parties discussed terms, and the player, who had already indicated willingness to extend, liked the offer, encouraging the board about closing a deal.
They will now align the final details of a new agreement that is set to include a significant pay rise.
López’s current deal runs to the end of 2029. Talks are moving towards adding one year, keeping him until the end of 2030.
Palmeiras presented a long-term project that envisages López as a pillar of the squad. The approach mirrors last season’s plan with Piquerez, now one of the team’s captains.
The club also argued that elsewhere he might not enjoy the same prominence he has in South American football. Staying could bolster his chances of becoming an idol at the club.
After impressing in 2025, he remains Palmeiras’ leading contributor to goals this year, with 42 appearances, 17 goals and 11 assists.
