Palmeiras have lodged a 25 million euro, about R$154.8 million, bid with Wolverhampton for Jhon Arias and had been awaiting a decision from Fluminense, who held a preference clause until Wednesday.
According to Nosso Palestra, Fluminense did not match the terms, leaving Palmeiras optimistic of concluding a deal for the Colombian forward.
Fluminense are attempting a final push with the English club and the player, but the expectation is that talks will move forward with Palmeiras.
Palmeiras are now working on final details of their proposal so that Arias accepts and could become their second signing of the 2026 season.
Although the English window has closed, preventing the European club from sourcing an immediate replacement, this is not viewed as an obstacle to negotiations. Arias has long been a Palmeiras target.
Wolverhampton are bottom of the Premier League with eight points from 24 matches. Arias has played 29 games for the club, with two goals and one assist.
