Signed by Palmeiras in 2024, right-back Giay returns to the national set-up. He is in fine form for the Alviverde and is earning increasing minutes.

In recent matches he scored his first goal and provided his first assist for the Verdão. Giay was also close to the 2026 World Cup, making Argentina’s preliminary list and remaining with the group until the opening games.

Forward Flaco López has been Palmeiras’ standout this season. The club’s leading scorer this year, the Argentine has earned another call-up after a notable 2026 World Cup.

At the tournament he supplied an assist against Switzerland and helped Argentina reach the final, finishing as runners-up. After the final he drew worldwide recognition by applauding champions Spain, the only Argentine player to do so.

Argentina face Bolivia on 30 September 2026 at 21:00 Brasília time. They then play Burkina Faso on 3 October 2026 at 20:00 Brasília time. The window ends against Benin on 6 October 2026 at 20:00 Brasília time.
