Palmeiras striker Vitor Roque has undergone surgery on a left ankle syndesmosis injury. He was hurt against Jacuipense at Allianz Parque in the first leg of the fifth phase of the Copa do Brasil.

According to Nosso Palestra, while the club have not set an official timescale, the initial plan is for the number nine to return in August.

He will be assessed daily and the timeline could change during rehabilitation. The World Cup break will be important in intensifying his recovery.

The injury followed a heavy challenge by Vicente Reis on the right flank. Roque immediately signalled for a substitution, received treatment on the pitch, then left on a stretcher, visibly frustrated. Luighi came on in his place.

That Jacuipense tie marked Roque’s first start back for Palmeiras. He had been out since the Campeonato Paulista final in March with an issue in the same ankle.
