According to Globo.com, Palmeiras are renewing the pitches at the Academia de Futebol, installing Tahoma 31, the same surface used at the World Cup, ahead of the squad’s 21 June return.
Work on pitch one began before the World Cup pause and is in its final phase, while pitch two entered renovation 10 days ago. The expectation is that both will be available when training resumes.
The Bermuda variety Tahoma 31 meets FIFA standards and is already laid on the two natural pitches at the training centre. It is recognised for clean ball roll and quicker recovery than many other grasses.
The plan emerged after last year’s Club World Cup and took shape this year, with an aim to standardise at the highest level.
Maristela Kuhn, an agronomist hired by Palmeiras, said she is proud of the decision to improve the pitches. She added that clubs should keep evolving, seek new technologies to enhance the stage where players train and play, and stay alert to innovations to test and use.
