Palmeiras report hostility from Santos organised fans and security denied pitch access | OneFootball

According to Globo.com, Palmeiras reported hostility from Santos’ organised supporters in a pitchside box at Vila Belmiro during and after Wednesday’s Copa do Brasil tie, and said some of their security staff were prevented from accessing the pitch.

The gate linking the visitors’ dressing room to the pitch was closed, leaving Palmeiras staff incensed. The club also described intimidation, insults and water being thrown.

Before kick-off, officials identified that the box beside Palmeiras’ bench was occupied by members of Santos’ organised support. Palmeiras opposed starting the game if that situation continued.

The match delegate and CBF coordinator Rogério Lopes called the police, who removed some supporters from the area. Marcelo Teixeira Filho and Nicolino Bozzela sought to keep them there by claiming they held valid tickets, although proof was not presented.

Santos maintained the supporters had tickets for the box and agreed only to reduce the number of occupants. The game proceeded under monitoring and, before the final whistle, police were called again as tempers flared.
