Palmeiras have moved to end centre-back Michel’s contract for just cause, following his early return from a loan at Moreirense. The club pursued the termination on Monday 11.
In a statement, the player’s representatives alleged he suffered xenophobia and workplace harassment in Portugal, stopped attending training after informing Moreirense and, despite what they describe as the club’s agreement, was dismissed for just cause. They added that on his return to Brazil he was summoned to Palmeiras’ training centre and confronted with a unilateral just-cause dismissal without concrete video evidence to date. They said he is seeking a consensual solution within the contract and the law, and that talks remain open.
Michel, a Palmeiras academy product, joined Moreirense on loan in January 2025 on a deal running until 30 June 2026. The Portuguese club returned him before the end of that agreement citing just cause.
He did not sign Palmeiras’ request, arguing there is no basis for just cause. If the deal is broken, his camp want him to receive part of the sums due under his contract, which runs until December 2028.
Palmeiras did not comment on the matter.
