Palmeiras resumed training on Friday and began final preparations to host Vasco at 16:00 Brasília time on Sunday at Nubank Parque, in the 23rd round of the Brasileirão. According to Nosso Palestra, the leaders on 48 points want to get back to winning ways after reaching the Libertadores quarter-finals.
After sealing progress against Cerro Porteño in Paraguay, Abel Ferreira’s staff ran targeted technical drills and small-sided games. The focus now returns to the league after dropped points in recent rounds.
Among those still recovering is Paulinho. The forward, who has a right thigh injury, completed on-pitch work in line with the medical and performance schedule.
Flaco López said the victory in Paraguay was important and that recent games had not brought the results they wanted despite good performances. He underlined the need to handle pressure during a congested season.
López has 35 league goals for Palmeiras and needs one to equal Ademir da Guia’s 36 in the competition. Overall he is on 74 for the club, level with Jair Rosa Pinto and one behind Edu Bala on 75.
Against Vasco, López expects a focused and intelligent display as they chase three points, and he highlighted the value of home support at Nubank Parque. The fixture comes three days before Palmeiras begin specific preparation for the decisive run-in, with LDU of Ecuador awaiting in the Libertadores quarter-finals in a repeat of last season’s semi-final.
