According to Nosso Palestra, Palmeiras want to agree a new deal for defender Gustavo Gómez during the 2026 season, even though his current contract runs to the end of 2027. The board do not wish to leave negotiations to the final year, which could create friction between the parties.
Gómez is regarded as one of the club’s greats and a cornerstone of Abel Ferreira’s side. Following Weverton’s departure, he is the longest-serving player in the squad.
At 32, he is viewed internally as fundamental to Palmeiras over the next few years. While any proposal remains some way off, the club have not ruled out offering a broader career plan to keep him through the latter stages of his career.
The centre-back has been a byword for durability, and he tops a recent study by the CIES Football Observatory. Over the past five years he is the outfield player with the most minutes in official matches worldwide.
The report records 28,194 minutes for the Paraguay international across club and national-team fixtures in the period analysed. That total puts Gómez ahead of players operating in Europe’s leading leagues and starring in continental and international competitions.
