Palmeiras will appeal and request a suspensive effect to pause Abel Ferreira’s two-match STJD ban. The punishment followed him kicking a touchline microphone during the draw with Mirassol.

According to Globo.com, the verdict came on Friday from the STJD’s third Disciplinary Commission. As it stands, Ferreira would be absent from the technical area against Botafogo on Sunday and São Paulo on 12 September.

If the suspensive effect is granted before Sunday, he could still coach at least against Botafogo.

The club says it trusts the Pleno will overturn the decision, arguing it contradicted the stance of case rapporteur George Suetônio Ramalho Junior. He deemed the prosecutor’s complaint unfounded and was the only one of four auditors to vote for acquittal. He noted that referee João Vitor Gobi had reviewed the incident and chose not to punish Ferreira, as heard on VAR audio aired in the session.

Palmeiras also expressed surprise at auditor Pedro Gonet’s request for more time after the rapporteur’s vote. Gonet, the third member scheduled to vote, returned about an hour later, at 12:59, and backed a two-match penalty.

Auditor Rodrigo Buzzi voted the same way, confirming the sanction.
