Palmeiras posted a R$ 124 million deficit by June after choosing not to sell key players. The board is not alarmed, calling it a calculated risk to keep a title-chasing squad and end the year in surplus.

By June, other income reached R$ 87.1 million, with R$ 37.4 million from Nubank Parque and R$ 49.3 million from player trading.

Sales focus is on under-20s and fringe players. Naves joined Necaxa and Luighi was loaned to New York City, while bids for leading names were rejected, including €20 million from Spartak Moscow for Flaco and a €30 million package from Aston Villa for Allan.

To offset any shortfall, Palmeiras are leaning on prize money, sponsor bonuses, gate receipts and the Avanti programme, plus potential partners.

Winning both Copa do Brasil and Libertadores could add R$ 227.85 million. In the Copa do Brasil, Palmeiras have earned R$ 9 million and could make another R$ 87 million with the title.

In the Libertadores, earnings stand at R$ 16.6 million to the last 16 against Cerro Porteño, and the title would be worth another R$ 149.5 million.

The deficit also reflects the World Cup pause that hit matchday income. June’s home-gate budget was R$ 2 million, but only R$ 37,000 came in. If balance is at risk, the club would act, including a bigger year-end sale.
