Pape Cabral’s proposed move from Monaco to Al Ahli is on hold after the Saudi club’s sporting director was sacked late on Thursday, according to L’Équipe.

Talks had been progressing, with a 13:00 video call between the midfielder’s camp and the official earlier in the day.

Cabral travelled to Paris with the Monaco squad, who face PSG on Friday night, and was due to complete his medical remotely.

On Thursday morning he had been reported as heading to Al Hilal. With their wage bill constrained, Monaco had opened the door and he was due to sign on terms of 10 million euros plus 2 in bonuses and a 15% sell-on clause.

The French transfer window shut on Tuesday one September, but other markets remain open so certain moves are still permitted.

Whether he now finds another destination or stays in Monaco is unclear, and optimism does not appear high for now. The club’s window has been unusual, coming two days after late twists involving Folarin Balogun and Lamine Camara.
