Ethan Ampadu has signed a new four-year Leeds United contract to summer 2030. According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, chairman Paraag Marathe confirmed the extension at a London roundtable with local media.

Talks began at the start of the year with the 25-year-old, whose previous deal ran to 2027. Leeds had an option for a further year, but his Premier League form and leadership made a longer agreement a priority.

Marathe said the paperwork is complete and described Ampadu as instrumental, a captain on and off the pitch, and a model of leadership. He called securing the captain an important first step for the upcoming window.

Ampadu joined in summer 2023 as an early building block in Daniel Farke's promotion push.

He captained Farke's side to the Championship title, then played a major role in preserving top-flight status last season. Despite a pair of serious knee injuries in his second campaign, he has already made 126 appearances for the club.

Farke has repeatedly called the 62-cap Wales international the club's most important player. Ampadu collected both the Players' Player of the Year and Player of the Year awards at Elland Road's end-of-season ceremony.
