Paris Brunner defended his controversial celebration after scoring Monaco’s equaliser in a 1-1 draw at Strasbourg.
The German forward first celebrated in front of the home ultras after a superb finish. As he moved back to position he stared at the kop and drew a finger across his throat, prompting whistles. After the match, Brunner said it came in the heat of the moment and that some fans had spoken about his mother and father.
He did not intend disrespect and believes the gesture was misunderstood. The message he intended was that it was a great goal and that was that.
The incident came on Saturday afternoon at La Meinau.
It remains to be seen whether the Monaco striker will face any sanction from the authorities.
