Former Sporting full-back Flávio Nazinho was one of the key figures as Monaco caused a big upset with a 2-1 win over Paris Saint-Germain in France. Nazinho scored the equalising goal as his team came from behind to beat the European champions 2-1 at the Parc des Princes, arriving brilliantly in the box to head home and make it a memorable first goal for his new club.

Also in France, ex-Vitória midfielder Diogo Sousa scored a goal and registered an assist for Strasbourg in their 6-2 win at Troyes. Countryman Dário Essugo made his debut in the match for Hugo Oliveira’s Strasbourg, who have back-to-back wins in Ligue 1 after an impressive victory over Lens last week.

Francisco Trincão has made a fine start to life in the Saudi Arabian Pro League, with three goal involvements in five matches. He got the third as Al Ahli beat Al Riyad 5-0 at home, making it three goal involvements from five matches (two goals, one assist) since the former Sporting man arrived in Saudi Arabia.

The goal of the weekend in the PA section comes from Mexico, where former Nacional and Gil Vicente midfielder Luís Esteves scored a stunner from long range for Atlas in their 1-1 draw with Atlante. Esteves’ strike means he now has two goals from his last four matches in Liga MX, having also scored in Atlas’ 2-1 victory over Tigres last month.

Borussia Dortmund produced a memorable comeback in the Bundesliga, overturning a 2-0 deficit with an hour played against Hoffenheim to win 3-2 in Germany. Striker Fábio Silva came off the bench for Dortmund, scoring the all-important equaliser with a brilliant left-footed finish.

Another fightback took place in Scotland as Hearts beat Dundee 2-1 having trailed heading into the latter stages. The game turned on a penalty scored by last season’s Premiership Player of the Year Cláudio Braga, who dispatched his spot-kick in the 84th minute for his second league goal of the season.

Jota Silva is settling into life in new surroundings after moving to Greek giants Olympiacos on loan from Nottingham Forest in July. The midfielder already has two goals from his first three matches in the Super League, with his penalty at the weekend coming in Olympiacos’ 1-1 draw at Volos.

Former Braga midfielder Xadas has made a strong name for himself in China, where he is entering his third season with Tianjin Jinmen Tiger. The 28-year-old scored the opening goal in the 6th minute at the weekend as his side defeated Zhejiang Professional 2-1 at home, making it an impressive 16 goal involvements from 25 matches this season for Xadas, who has eight goals and eight assists.

Rúben Neves is one of the surprise top goalscorers in the Saudi Pro League, with only two players having scored more than the midfielder across the opening six rounds. Neves has three goals to his name so far, with his latest from the penalty spot as league leaders Al Hilal beat Al Shabab 2-0 away on Friday. Also in the Middle East, former Boavista man Pedro Malheiro scored and got an assist in the United Arab Emirates for Al Wasl in their 5-2 win over Khorfakkan.

The start of the Bulgarian league season has been littered with Portuguese goalscorers, with no fewer than nine Luso scorers netting a total of 15 goals between them. The latest was former Wolves and Gil Vicente man Boubacar Hanne, who scored for Spartak Varna as they held giants CSKA Sofia to a 1-1 draw.

In Brazil, forward João Pedro, who last played in Portugal for Paços Ferreira, scored a late equaliser in the second tier to earn Atlético Goianiense a 2-2 draw at Juventude. In the Azerbaijani Premier League, Jorge Silva scored the winner for Turan Tovuz as they beat Sumqayit 2-1 and former Benfica prospect Diogo dos Santos struck as Imisli lost 2-1 at Gabala, while finally in Cyprus veteran defender Kiko scored in Anorthosis’ 3-1 defeat to Apollon.
