Paris Brunner looks set to be called up to Germany’s U21 squad for the first time, as per a report from Florian Plettenberg. It comes amid a strong start to the season for the former Borussia Dortmund forward.

The German has benefited from the absences of Folarin Balogun and Matthis Abline up front to assert himself as the first-choice pick under new manager Filipe Luís.

In six games in all competitions, he already has five goals, his latest a long-range strike that earned the Principality club a point away to RC Strasbourg Alsace over the weekend. Brunner has previously represented Germany at U20 level, but he is now set to make the step up to the U21s. It would be a first for the Monégasque.

He had been in the conversation for a call-up to Germany’s senior side. And whilst that may now have to wait, Plettenberg understands that Jurgen Klopp is monitoring the Monaco forward with a view to a future selection.
