AZ Alkmaar may be without Troy Parrott in Thursday’s Conference League play-offs. The Irish striker was injured in training on Tuesday, manager Maarten Martens revealed.
AZ hope to reach the main phase of the Conference League tomorrow evening. At home, the Alkmaar side will defend their 2-0 lead against Levski Sofia. Whether Parrott will be there is highly doubtful.
“Troy was sidelined from training on Tuesday,” Martens explained. “We’ll have to see how he’s doing.”
Even if Parrott is unable to play, the Belgian coach isn’t too worried about the state of his team. “In Mexx (Meerdink) we have another very good striker, and that’s been a topic of conversation lately.”
The in-form Parrott has recently been preferred over his Dutch rival. In seven matches – spread across the Eredivisie and Conference League – he has scored a remarkable nine goals. Meerdink has scored two goals in six matches across all competitions this season.
