Pascal Gross has welcomed Brighton’s plan for extra home friendlies as they tune up for Conference League and Premier League action.

As reported by TheArgus.co.uk, the club have set a fuller schedule than usual. Roma visit the Amex on Saturday at 2pm for the first public run-out of the summer, with Bologna following a week later and the European play-off in Norway or Romania then only days away.

Albion have already faced Wycombe and Strasbourg behind closed doors, with several players yet to feature. Gross converted a penalty in a 4-3 win over Strasbourg and views the twin tests at the Amex as smart preparation.

He believes the extra games help because World Cup returnees came back later, and with new arrivals and departures there is more to learn together. He adds that the Premier League is tough and they need to be ready, and that every outing improves on‑pitch understanding.

World Cup defenders Michael Svoboda and Luka Vuskovic missed the Strasbourg match after linking up with the squad in Vienna at the start of the week. Both trained fully, as did summer signing Costinha at right-back.

Lewis Dunk has also trained fully but is yet to see his first minutes. Roma last visited the Amex two-and-a-half years ago, protecting a 4-0 Europa League first-leg lead despite a single Danny Welbeck goal.
