Former Manchester United left-back Patrice Evra has criticised Mourinho for his stance over the alleged racism incident involving young Argentine winger Gianluca Prestianni and Vinícius Júnior.
"It is sad. Vinícius has to keep insisting on the issue. He is the target, that is what he will feel... When these things happen, you feel an injustice because, even if you are the one saying what happened, the people accused will make themselves out to be victims," he told The Athletic.
"People complain more about his attitude. They say, 'Why is he dancing, why is he provoking?' They give someone an excuse to insult him just because he dances when he scores."
After a Champions League match, Mourinho suggested that, since problems occur with Vinícius in many stadiums, something is not right. He then questioned why he celebrated a stunning goal in that way, invoking Di Stefano, Pelé and Eusébio as examples.
Benfica are back in action on Sunday 12 April against Nacional.
