Patrick Vieira was appointed Senegal head coach on Tuesday, taking charge of the Lions of Teranga.
L'Équipe reports that he has spent 25 years helping to develop football in his country of birth through the Diambars project.
At Highbury, Arsenal’s former ground, supporters once sang a chant celebrating that he came from Senegal and played for Arsenal.
Born in Dakar, he moved to Trappes, Yvelines, with his mother at the age of seven.
Now 50, Vieira initially did not fully grasp how much his birthplace would come to mean to him.
