Paul Merson talking about Benjamin Sesko and Nick Woltemade.

Manchester United signing Benjamin Sesko in the summer, with Newcastle United also bidding for the Slovenia international striker.

Then when Nick Woltemade surprisingly became available after Bayern Munich failed with three lowball offers, Eddie Howe swooped to sign the Germany international striker.

So which club has got the best deal?

On the question of Nick Woltemade and Benjamin Sesko, Paul Merson has no doubt which of the pair will score most goals this season.

Paul Merson talking to Sportskeeda ahead of Bournemouth v Newcastle:

“This will be a good game to watch.

“Bournemouth are flying and Newcastle got their first win last weekend.

“Nick Woltemade reminds me of Peter Crouch! He has a good brain, comes deep and gets people involved, that is literally the same way Crouch played. My only demand is that Woltemade has to get back in the box a lot more. Sometimes, he just gets too involved in the build up.

“Based on what we’ve seen so far, you’d be shocked if Woltemade doesn’t score more goals than Sesko this season. He has two wingers who will feed him so well, like they did in that win over Wolves.

“Man U, on the other hand, don’t have that type of wingers. Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo would rather have a crack at goal themselves than feed Sesko.

“I expect an entertaining game with plenty of goals here, don’t miss this one!

“Prediction: Bournemouth 2 Newcastle United 2”

I can’t really disagree with a lot of what Paul Merson has to say above.

Last season in the Bundesliga, Benjamin Sesko averaged a goal every 185 minutes he was on the pitch (2,399 Bundesliga minutes played in the 2024/25 season, scoring 13 goals).

Last season in the Bundesliga, Nick Woltemade averaged a goal every 135 minutes he was on the pitch (1,621 Bundesliga minutes played in the 2024/25 season, scoring 12 goals).

Nick Woltemade is already 1-0 up on Benjamin Sesko when it comes to scoring Premier League goals and on what I have seen of the pair, I certainly wouldn’t be swapping the big German for the Man U signing.

I also agree that the Bournemouth match is set to be an entertaining match, as well as a tough one. Though I am confident United will get at least a point.

The only thing I would disagree with Paul Merson about, is the Nick Woltemade comparisons with Peter Crouch.

The Newcastle star is almost as tall as Crouch but it is lazy to claim they are similar type players.

Nick Woltemade is far more in proportion than the gangly Peter Crouch and the Germany international has dribbling with the ball as one of his big strengths, the former Liverpool forward had a decent touch but wasn’t capable of running with the ball.

Newcastle United fixtures definitely confirmed dates and times (All of the Champions League matches will also be available to watch on TV in the UK):
