The time may finally have come. Paul Pogba (32) is expected to make his debut for AS Monaco this weekend, against Stade Rennais, according to a report from L’Équipe.
Pogba has not played since September 2023 due to a doping ban. He left Juventus during that ban before signing for Monaco as a free agent this summer. Having signed a two-year deal back in June, his return was never expected to be imminent.
As announced by Monaco’s CEO, Thiago Scuro, during Pogba’s presentation in early July, a three-month programme was put in place to allow him to reach peak fitness. That would have seen him return around the start of October. However, there have been delays, notably an ankle sprain at the end of October, which pushed back his return, which had been anticipated that very weekend.
Sébastien Pocognoli said that he “wasn’t getting ahead of [himself]” regarding Pogba’s return earlier this week in an interview with AFP. Whilst it was a comment with a pessimistic tone, L’Équipe understands that La Pioche will indeed return when Monaco travel to face Rennes at Roazhon Park on Saturday evening.
