Paul Simonis tipped for Ajax Amsterdam
Ajax Amsterdam could soon appoint Paul Simonis as their new head coach, according to Florian Plettenberg.
John Heitinga was dismissed following a difficult start to the season: 20 points from 12 Eredivisie matches and bottom place in the Champions League group. Fred Grim is currently serving as interim manager, but the club is actively searching for a coach to revive the team.
Simonis, 40, recently left Wolfsburg, where he recorded three wins, two draws, and seven defeats in 12 matches. Last season, he impressed with Go Ahead Eagles, leading them to the Dutch Cup final and finishing seventh in the league. Talks between Ajax and Simonis are ongoing. Technical director Alex Kroes has already made contact with the coach, who was on the club's shortlist last summer.
