Paulo Fonseca has reiterated he will be Lyon head coach in 2026-27 ahead of Sunday’s match against Lens. According to L'Équipe, he struck an optimistic tone.
He will be without Tyler Morton, sidelined with pubalgia, and Tanner Tessmann after recent surgery. Kick-off is at 21:00 in the Ligue 1 multiplex.
Fonseca said he is not a specialist on finances but has received positive news. He added that direct Champions League qualification could allow Lyon to recruit two or three quality players, and that he and sporting director Mathieu Louis-Jean have planned for every scenario.
He said he is happy with the city, the club and the people, and believes in the project and its future. He even joked he was ready to skip holidays to prepare for the Champions League, a target he has not yet reached via direct qualification with Lille or Lyon.
Lyon are fourth in Ligue 1 and must do better than Lille, who host Auxerre, to snatch third.
Goalkeeper Dominik Greif said they have prepared well for Lens after a season of tough tests and strong displays. Following the 1-2 loss at Toulouse on matchday 33, third place is no longer in their hands, but he maintained they can still finish third, fourth or fifth.
