According to Coluna Do Fla, Botafogo are in talks to appoint a head coach for the season’s run-in and are assessing a seven-strong list that includes former Flamengo bosses Paulo Sousa and Vítor Pereira.
Both managers had recent, turbulent spells at Flamengo and have been out of work since June after leaving their clubs.
Pedro Caixinha, Thiago Motta, Sebastián Beccacece, Sérgio Conceição and Marcelo Gallardo complete the shortlist, as the club widens its options before making a final call.
Botafogo dismissed Franclim Carvalho on 18 August. Since then, under-20 coach Rodrigo Bellão has led the side on an interim basis and recently lost 3-0 to Flamengo.
That result increased pressure on the temporary set-up, with players such as Alex Telles confronted face to face by organised supporters demanding improvements.
Paulo Sousa’s Flamengo tenure lasted about five months in 2022, marked by inconsistency and heavy internal and fan pressure, and ended with his dismissal in June 2022.
Vítor Pereira’s spell was shorter, a little over three months. He oversaw 18 matches, winning 10, drawing one and losing seven, with 36 scored and 24 conceded, an about 57 per cent return.
