Six months after parting with Vasco, following an early termination announced in June, Payet is keeping a low profile back in France and remains a defendant in Brazil over alleged psychological violence against lawyer Larissa Ferrari. He has not announced retirement or found a new club.
According to Globo.com, prosecutors say he caused financial and emotional harm through degrading and humiliating conduct, manipulation and ridicule. In August, Ferrari’s lawyers sought to amend the complaint to add bodily injury and sexual violence and to insert dates they say support a coercion claim.
On 4 December, prosecutors said any sexual-violence count should await the evidentiary phase and that there are not yet sufficient grounds, though the charge could be added later if indications arise. In September, Paraná’s court denied a protective order, citing no imminent risk or threatening behaviour.
Since leaving Rio de Janeiro he has kept largely out of the spotlight. He played in a charity match in November, then on Sunday joined Olympique de Marseille legends in a Kings League event at the Vélodrome alongside Zidane and Ribéry.
On social media, his profile still shows a São Januário photo set soon after he arrived at Vasco. Early this year the club explored a renewal if he spread due wages across extra months, but subdued displays cooled talks.
In 2025 he played 17 games for Vasco, starting four, with three assists and no goals. His last official appearance was on 15 April against Ceará at Castelão in the Campeonato Brasileiro.
