Six months after terminating his Vasco deal, Payet has neither retired nor joined a new club, according to PaponaColina. The 38-year-old left in June after the club ended his contract early.
While at Vasco, he became a defendant in Brazil for alleged psychological violence against lawyer Larissa Ferrari, with whom he had an extramarital relationship.
In August, Ferrari's lawyers sought to expand the complaint to include alleged bodily harm and sexual violence, plus added details on dates and incidents they say showed coercion.
In September, the Paraná Court of Justice rejected a request for protective measures, citing no imminent risk and no direct threat from the player.
On 4 December, prosecutors said they must await the evidentiary phase to deepen inquiries and that there is not yet enough to add sexual violence charges, though the complaint could be updated.
Back in France, Payet has kept a low profile, but after a charity appearance in November he featured on Sunday in the Kings League at the Vélodrome alongside Olympique de Marseille legends Zidane and Ribéry.
Vasco explored a renewal early this year, tied to a salary adjustment, but 17 games in 2025, only four starts, three assists and no goals, ended that prospect. His last official match came on 15 April against Ceará in the Campeonato Brasileiro.
