Joost Blaauwhof is reporting that PEC Zwolle have registered a bid with AZ for defender Billy van Duijl. AZ had rejected the offer but have not fully denied the defender a chance to leave. Originally Maarten Martens had not wanted to see the defender leave, but now that the head coach has left the club following defeat to PEC Zwolle, the transfer may well happen. According to the report, van Duijl is keen to make the move.
The 20-year-old van Duijl has played twice for the AZ first team this season, so a move to PEC Zwolle would certainly give him a greater chance of Eredivisie football. He has spent the majority of the past two seasons with Jong AZ in the Dutch second tier. This season he has played 21 times for the side in the Eerste Divisie. Van Duijl came through the youth system with FC Volendam and made five appearances for their first team before leaving to join AZ in 2024.
