Vasco president Pedrinho has intensified his row with Flamengo’s Luiz Eduardo Baptista, Bap, amid the dispute over access to the Maracanã. He also questioned Bap’s priorities around the Brasileirão.
“I do not think it is true that he is worried about the Brasileirão, because he did not even honour the contract Landim signed regarding the League. In his head, he decided Flamengo could get a better deal and walked away from the table,” Pedrinho said, speaking to Canal Igor Rodrigues.
Flamengo are in Libra, which organises broadcast revenue. After taking charge in 2025, Bap felt terms signed by Rodolfo Landim cost the club money and went to court, angering members. Palmeiras then quit under president Leila Pereira and are currently unaffiliated.
The latest flashpoint is the Maracanã. The consortium run by Flamengo and Fluminense rejected Vasco’s request to host the Copa Sudamericana semi-final against Boca Juniors, citing pitch conditions. Reports note the stadium staged nine runs of matches with gaps of up to 48 hours in 2026, while Flamengo also have fixtures on 11, 15 and 22.
Conmebol have given Vasco until Monday 05 to confirm a new home venue. Pedrinho is weighing São Januário, including a possible expansion of the away section.
Clubs can currently list up to nine foreign players, with a cut to eight in 2027 and five in 2030, opposed only by Flamengo, Bahia and Londrina. “My vote in favour is a vote of confidence for everything the CBF has done. Do I think this is the best path? No... It was only a vote of confidence,” Pedrinho said.
