Pedro Ribeiro named UD Oliveirense head coach after leaving Régis Le Bris’ Sunderland staff | OneFootball

Pedro Ribeiro has been appointed head coach of UD Oliveirense, marking his return to management. The Liga Portugal 2 side have moved for the Portuguese coach following his spell on Wearside.

The club said in a statement that his career spans Portuguese and international football and welcomed him to Oliveirense.

Ribeiro joined Sunderland in October 2024 to work under Régis Le Bris with a focus on the team’s defensive work. He helped the Black Cats secure promotion to the Premier League in 2024-25 before departing by mutual consent after a summer first-team staff restructure.

The 40-year-old began coaching at 19 and previously worked as an assistant to Vítor Pereira. Their spells together included Porto, Al-Ahli, Olympiacos, Fenerbahçe and 1860 Munich.

He has also managed in Portugal with Gil Vicente, Belenenses SAD, Penafiel, Académico de Viseu and Leixões. His first senior managerial post came at Gil Vicente in 2018, when he became the youngest coach in Portuguese professional football.
