Pep Guardiola has offered Barcelona one of the most flattering compliments possible. The former Barca coach did not just praise results or individual players, he said Flick’s side are a team that genuinely makes people enjoy watching football again.
As quoted by Mundo Deportivo, Guardiola made the comments in an interview with Esports3 while speaking in a context shaped by the memory of Johan Cruyff. Even so, he made sure to focus on the present Barca side and the work being done by Hansi Flick. He said:
“Whenever I have the chance to watch Barca, I do so with interest because I find them entertaining.“
He pushed that idea even further by comparing watching Barcelona to going to the cinema, the theatre or out for a meal, experiences where the point is simply to have a good time. His verdict was clear:
“It is a Barca team that makes you enjoy yourself and when you sit in front of the television you know you will have a good time watching the team.”
From a Barcelona perspective, that praise means a lot because it touches the club’s identity. Barca are expected not only to win, but to entertain, dominate the ball and make the game feel alive. When Guardiola says Flick’s team are doing that, supporters will hear more than a casual compliment.
Guardiola recently named Barcelona among what he considers the three best teams in Europe, alongside Arsenal and Bayern Munich. For one of the best managers in the club’s history to speak so highly of the current team is the best form of compliment.
Guardiola sees something recognizable in this team: a Barca side that plays well enough to make people want to watch, and that may be one of the strongest signs yet that Flick is building something very real.
