The Mirror reports that Pep Guardiola intends to be in the Etihad stands when Manchester City face Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League on October 14, signalling his support during the club’s most turbulent modern spell.
The Catalan left at the end of last season, with Enzo Maresca taking charge, but he remains closely tied to the club.
City are reeling from an independent commission finding them guilty of all charges regarding breaches of Premier League financial regulations between 2009 and 2018. The club denies wrongdoing and has formally appealed.
Guardiola’s haul of 20 trophies in a decade is now under scrutiny, with much of that success falling within the investigated period.
In a firm statement on Friday, City argued the opinion contained material errors in law, principle and fact and was unsafe. They insisted the club is innocent and said there is irrefutable evidence supporting their position, while pledging to respect due process and limit comment until proceedings conclude.
Guardiola has consistently defended the hierarchy and, in a message on X this week, told supporters he is with them more than ever, backing the owner, chairman, Ferran Soriano, the players, staff and Maresca, and saying they will get through it together. He is currently on sabbatical in Barcelona.
