José Mourinho, whose Benfica exit is close to being confirmed, could look to bring Pepe into his staff if he takes the Real Madrid job.

According to Glorioso 1904, the former Portugal defender is under consideration for Mourinho’s prospective coaching team at the Spanish club, which would mark his first assistant role if agreed.

Mourinho and Pepe previously worked together in Madrid across three seasons from 2010 to 2013.

Pepe knows Real Madrid intimately after 10 seasons there between 2007 and 2017, collecting several major honours including three Champions League titles.

His potential arrival could aid Mourinho, who is seeking trusted figures steeped in the club’s culture as he continues to be regarded as a strong candidate to return to the Real Madrid dugout.

Now 43, Pepe ended his playing career in 2024, after a final spell at Porto, and has kept a low profile since, but could now be preparing for a first step on the technical side.
