Ricardo Pepi struck late as PSV beat AZ 2-1 at the Philips Stadion to stay top of the Eredivisie.
In the 13th minute, Billy van Duijl finished from the centre of the box to give AZ the lead. On the stroke of half time, Troy Parrott put into his own net to level it for the hosts.
After the restart, Pepi swept in the winner from Ivan Perišić's headed pass (86.). The Croatia international had been a constant supply line from the left.
Rome Owusu-Oduro made a string of stops to keep AZ in it. Matej Kovar denied efforts at key moments as the leaders held firm.
Sergiño Dest went off injured and Anass Salah-Eddine came on after the break, but Boeren continued to push with Perišić's crossing posing problems.
Boeren controlled 63.6% possession and tallied 19 attempts, eight on target. AZ registered 13 attempts with five on target.
Next, Boeren host NEC Nijmegen. AZ face Sparta Prague in the UEFA Conference League before hosting Heracles in the league.
