Pereira, Postecoglou and Dyche compared in first Forest addresses

Vitor Pereira’s Nottingham Forest unveiling was deliberately low-key, held in the Peter Taylor Stand media suite, a contrast to Ange Postecoglou posing with a shirt in the tunnel and Sean Dyche smiling in the club museum.

According to NY Times, Pereira is Forest’s fourth head coach this season with 12 games to secure safety, inheriting a side three points above the bottom three after Nuno Espírito Santo started the campaign.

The former Wolves manager set out his ethos through his upbringing in Espinho, saying coaching was his early ambition, built on hard work, and that the spirit chimes with Forest. Belief, passion, work and quality were recurring themes, delivered in his second language.

Postecoglou’s focus often returned to himself, suggesting he tends to leave a mark and that it takes time. Dyche struck a different chord, stressing pride in a club he felt emotionally connected to.

Pereira declined to dwell on Wolves, accepting football’s results business and emphasising respect while focusing on the present. Postecoglou namechecked Spurs or Tottenham 18 times at his City Ground unveiling, which jarred with a fanbase used to Steve Cooper and Nuno’s feel for the club. Dyche referenced Everton and Burnley but underlined his bond with Forest alongside Ian Woan and Steve Stone.

On Evangelos Marinakis, Pereira welcomed working with him again after a 2015 double at Olympiacos despite leaving Athens by mutual agreement. He described the owner as ambitious and present, said he does not interfere, and noted management offers no security, recalling his former life as a schoolteacher.

Ambitions have shifted. Nuno departed 162 days ago with Europe the aim, Postecoglou arrived off a Europa League win at Tottenham, then Dyche prioritised steering clear of trouble. Marinakis ended Postecoglou after 39 days following a 3-0 loss to Chelsea, then dismissed Dyche after consulting senior players.

Pereira now must knit together a squad shaped by three predecessors and ideas. His first game is tomorrow against his former club Fenerbahce, with European progress still in view, and he says success depends on players buying into his ideas and the person.
