International left-back Perle Morroni (25) has stepped back from France’s national team, following in the footsteps of skipper Wendie Renard as well as key strikers Marie-Antoinette Katoto and Kadidiatou Diani, as pointed out by L’Equipe. The OL left-back has taken to Instagram to publicly criticise the management of the France’s women national team. In her statement, Morroni says she joins her teammates “against the current management system of France’s national team“, adding that she has personally suffered at the hands of it.
Morroni, an 11-time France international, says that, if she is to wear the French national team jersey again, she would hope that it will be in better circumstances where the values espoused by management are in line with what is expected in high level football. The defender has not been called up since April 2022 by Les Bleues’ manager Corinne Diacre. She was absent for the February fixtures despite injuries to fullbacks Sakina Karchaoui and Selma Bacha.
Support for Renard, Diani and Katoto has multiplied in recent hours, nationally and internationally on social networks. The UNFP, the French PFA, have given them their backing and former France goalkeeper Sarah Bouhaddi, who had denounced the methods of manager Corinne Diacre in recent years when she announced that she would be cutting ties with the national team in 2020, wished to “acknowledge the bravery” of her teammates.
