The personnel situation at FC Bayern is coming to a head ahead of the important CL clash against Real Madrid. Vincent Kompany has now commented on Harry Kane and other returning players.
Harry Kane struggled with ankle problems during the international phase. The attacker was rested and missed England’s game against Japan. After his return to Munich, he underwent examinations, but a clear diagnosis was initially not made.
Ahead of the Bundesliga match in Freiburg, there was therefore uncertainty as to whether the Englishman would be fit in time. Internally, there have recently been indications that the club does not want to take any risks, also with a view to the upcoming Champions League clash against Real Madrid.
Now Vincent Kompany provided more clarity at the press conference. The Bayern coach explained: „Harry felt something in his ankle in England training. He won’t be available tomorrow. But I’m optimistic for Tuesday.“

While Kane is missing in Freiburg, other players are making progress. Jamal Musiala and Alphonso Davies returned to full team training and also completed intensive running sessions. Aleksandar Pavlovic was also getting closer to a return to the team. The midfielder was able to take part in large parts of training after being out recently with a hip problem.
Vincent Kompany was satisfied with the overall personnel situation. The coach emphasised: „Harry is out. Jackson is suspended. Otherwise it looks good. Jamal is back, Phonzy too. They’ve had a full week of training. Ito has been getting game time with the national team, Manu is back, Pavlo is back. We’ll see who can start – but the squad is where it needs to be.“
The 40-year-old Manuel Neuer was back on the training pitch and is gradually increasing his workload. He is expected to be back in goal against Freiburg. Jonas Urbig also completed his first individual training sessions following his knee injury.
With a view to possible rotation ahead of the clash with Real Madrid, Kompany also made it clear: „As a coach, you have to make it clear that Freiburg is the priority. And that’s all we have to talk about today. We’re not going to do anything new; that’s what got us into this position – still in all competitions, with the whole squad, and we’ll do the same again.“
He added: „We’ll see what decisions we make tomorrow. When a player feels something and you have to play Champions League three days later – it’s normal to make decisions, especially when you’ve always trusted the squad. I try to take the information and make decisions.“
