Peru have appointed Mano Menezes as their new head coach, according to Meu Timao. The 63-year-old’s appointment was confirmed on Thursday. He returns to national-team management after more than a decade, having led Brazil between 2010 and 2012.

He replaces Ibañez, who was dismissed in September 2025. Peru finished the South American qualifiers ninth, the penultimate spot, eight points behind Bolivia, who took the play-off berth.

During that campaign the team were also coached by Jorge Fossati and Juan Reynoso in an effort to reach the World Cup. Menezes now begins preparations for the 2030 World Cup cycle and the 2028 Copa América.

He could call on a Corinthians player, André Carrillo, who is frequently selected by the Bicolor.

Menezes had three spells at Corinthians. He first arrived in 2008, lifting Serie B then the 2009 Paulista and Copa do Brasil, before moving to Brazil the following year.

After leaving the Seleção in 2012, he returned in 2014 to replace Tite but did not win a trophy. Nine years later he came back again with the club fighting relegation after Vanderlei Luxemburgo’s exit, kept them in Serie A, then was dismissed early in the 2024 Paulista after a poor run.

In total he oversaw 267 games for Corinthians, recording 142 wins, 69 draws and 56 defeats, a 62% points return. His sides scored 434 and conceded 261, and he won three trophies.
