Pessimism grips Corinthians over keeping midfielder Maycon for 2026, with Atlético-MG also in the frame. The Shakhtar Donetsk player has offers from both clubs.

According to Meu Timao, the decision now lies with Maycon, and current indications suggest he is likely to play in Minas Gerais this season. Corinthians had accepted Shakhtar’s terms, including a three-year deal, even before Atlético-MG entered the race.

Talks were advanced before the turn of the year under Fabinho Soldado’s tenure. Shakhtar initially agreed to release him without an upfront fee, retaining 50% of his economic rights, but insisted on a three-year contract.

The agreement cooled when Corinthians switched to a two-season offer running to the end of 2027, a change that displeased the Ukrainians due to reduced resale potential. In recent days, Corinthians have again indicated they accept the three-year term, aligning with Atlético-MG’s proposal.

Maycon’s fourth consecutive loan at Corinthians ended on 31 December 2025. The São Paulo club still owe Shakhtar €1 million, roughly R$ 6.5 million, from earlier agreements.

Captain last season, Maycon helped win the 2025 Campeonato Paulista and Copa do Brasil. He played 43 matches, scoring three goals and adding one assist, and has 247 appearances across his two spells, along with the 2017 Brasileiro and the 2017, 2018 and 2025 state titles.
