According to Globo.com, Philippe Coutinho is continuing a round of tests at Santos on Saturday as the club assess a three-month contract running to early December.

He is undergoing medical and fitness checks before any deal is finalised.

The 34-year-old arrived at the CT Rei Pelé on Friday, completing cardiological and imaging examinations and familiarising himself with the new set-up.

Next come more specific assessments, including blood work, physiotherapy and conditioning tests.

Only if he is cleared across all areas will he sign.

Santos want a clear picture of a player who has not featured since February, when he left Vasco.

The club view the agreement as a risk and aim to minimise any chance of him failing to make an immediate impact.

Given the 90-day term, they seek assurance he is ready to play, even if his match sharpness requires patience.

Coutinho accepted a short deal precisely to judge for himself, without being tied down, whether to continue his career in 2027.

Neymar requested the signing and his father’s firm, NR Sports, has been made available to assist the player, including transport by air and establishing initial contact with the club’s leadership.

Santos had considered a productivity-linked contract, but Coutinho lowered his initial salary demands so his monthly pay would not be tied to appearances.
