Philippe Coutinho’s future at Vasco remains unresolved, with pressure building around São Januário amid internal debate.
According to ESPN, the playmaker is under contract only until July 2026 and there is no internal consensus on whether to extend for the rest of the season. Some senior figures want the no.10 to stay, while others oppose a fresh move.
Until late last year there were indications he could retire when his current deal ends, but the outlook has shifted in recent weeks, largely due to Vasco’s turbulent spell.
The issue sharpened after the Campeonato Carioca quarter-finals against Volta Redonda, when he was booed by sections of the crowd and replaced at half-time by Fernando Diniz. He did not remain on the bench for the second half, prompting speculation, and Diniz later downplayed any friction.
This season the 33-year-old has seven appearances for Vasco, with three goals and one assist. The uncertainty around Philippe Coutinho is set to remain a major theme in the coming weeks amid fan pressure and strategic decisions for the rest of the campaign.
