The talented young goalkeeper expressed his delight over their final day win, but Pierce Charles could be on his way out this summer regardless.
At the end of a wretched season, the final day of 2025-26 gave Sheffield Wednesday supporters something to smile about.
The day started with confirmation that the Owls' change of ownership has finally been approved, along with an announcement that a 15-point deduction for the start of next season had been waived by the EFL due to Dejphon Chansiri's failure to co-operate with them and David Storch's consortium.
And once the game got going, a sell-out crowd of 33,750 saw a season-best performance from Henrik Pedersen's team which resulted in a 2-1 win which lifted them out of a negative points tally for the first time since an 18-point deduction was applied to them last year for entering into administration and ongoing issues with paying wages on time.
Hillsborough, then, was a happier place on Saturday than it has been in months, and after the match there was a considerable amount of social media posting from people around the club, expressing their delight at finishing the season on such a high.

It's clear that the events at Hillsborough on Saturday meant a lot to everyone involved, including perhaps the star of their season - Pierce Charles.
The Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper took to Instagram after the match, posting a picture of himself alongside the caption: "This club never fails to amaze me. Special day for everyone."
Still just 21 years of age, Charles' senior career has been something of a baptism of fire. He signed for the club from Manchester City in 2021, and made his full debut for them in their 1-1 draw with Coventry City in the FA Cup in January 2024.
Then-manager Danny Rohl said at the time: "I was asked recently if he is going on loan, tomorrow he will play in the starting 11 but we are convinced about him. He is ready for the moment. He has high potential and he has showed a lot and tomorrow it is a good opportunity for him and we go forward.”
But such has been the growth that Charles has shown in the two and half seasons since he made his senior debut that there has been considerable interest in him from other clubs, even though his team have had a record-breakingly bad season in the Championship throughout 2025-26.

Sheffield Wednesday may have had a dreadful 2025-26 season, but the stock of Pierce Charles has only increased as it has progressed.
Despite some issues with injuries, he ended up making 19 appearances for them and keeping two clean sheets. What's most striking about his average match rating is how high it is, despite the fact that he conceded an average of almost two goals a season over those 19 matches.
There have been links to clubs with an interest in him throughout the season. Interest from Strasbourg was reported by the Daily Telegraph's Mike McGrath as long ago as last August, with McGrath saying that "West Ham and Rangers walked away from deals after no response to bids." A £2.2 million bid for Charles was reportedly turned down towards the end of the summer transfer window.
Strasbourg returned with a bid for Charles in the January transfer window, but a recurrence of the shoulder injury which kept him out of the first team from the middle of August until the start of December stopped that from moving forward.
At the end of April, meanwhile, sources revealed exclusively to Football League World that Queens Park Rangers and Cardiff City could be joining both Celtic and Rangers in pursuit of the young goalkeeper, while a report from TEAMtalk claimed that an array of clubs, including Coventry City, Tottenham Hotspur, Leeds United, Newcastle United and even Charles' first club Manchester City, could all be interested in signing him.
There has to be considered, then, a strong possibility that Pierce Charles will leave Hillsborough come the reopening of the summer transfer window. Now capped ten times by the Northern Ireland international team, the 21-year-old will be keen to prove himself at the highest level, and Premier League interest in him will surely turn his head, with Sheffield Wednesday set to start next season in League One.
If this is to happen, Wednesday fans might console themselves that their club no longer has a need to sell the goalkeeper at a fire-sale price. They can extract what they consider his full value to be, and the interest of a number of different clubs could even lead to a bidding war for his services from those serious about giving him an opportunity at a higher level.
Who that might turn out to be will remain unclear until the end of the Premier League season, which doesn't arrive for another three weeks, and whether Leeds, West Ham or Spurs will even be playing in the top-flight next season is likely to remain up in the air until the final matches have been played. Elsewhere, Coventry City seem likely to make 2025-26 loanee Carl Rushworth their first choice for their return to the top flight.
But with the club under new ownership and looking more financially stable than they have in a long time, Sheffield Wednesday would, should the player wish to test himself elsewhere, be able to command a proper market value for the young goalkeeper, and this in turn could benefit them as they seek to rebuild for their return to League One next season.
