Pierre Sage admits Ismaila Sarr needs time after Liverpool move collapse

Pierre Sage says Ismaila Sarr needs time to recover mentally and physically after his hoped-for switch to Liverpool fell through, and insists the forward remains committed to Crystal Palace.

The Daily Mail reports that Sage accepts Sarr must process the emotional impact before he returns to competitive action. The Senegal international hit 21 goals in 45 games last season and was the subject of a rejected offer from Liverpool, with Palace maintaining throughout the window that he was indispensable.

Tensions rose when agent Diomansy Kamara accused Palace of disrespecting an African player’s career ambitions. Sage rejected that view, saying the club and its staff act respectfully and want the best for both Palace and their players.

Palace held firm despite further interest from clubs in Türkiye and Saudi Arabia, where windows remain open. Sage added that any future elite move must be earned on the pitch once Sarr returns, acknowledging the player still needs time.

Sarr will miss Saturday’s trip to Fulham with a groin problem. Sage hopes to have him back next week, while noting previous timelines have slipped, and wants him to return in good physical condition and the right mindset. Once fit, Sarr is expected to refocus quickly to help Palace respond to their recent 4-1 defeat by Manchester City.
